Dana James MS, CNS, CDN, is a tripled certified nutritionist, functional medicine practitioner and cognitive behavioural therapist. Over the year, Dana has become a thought-leader in the Food & Nutrition industry, pioneering the idea that weight issues in women is not only related to the food intake but rather it is a complex process involving emotions, stress, sense of self-worth and hormonal balance which need to be tackled differently for everyone.

She has a Master of Science in Medical Nutrition from Columbia University and received her training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from Beck Institute. Following this she completed an internship at the Brain Bio Centre in London, a facility treating people with mental health disorders.

In 2007, James founded a functional medicine nutrition practice, the Food Coach NYC, where she has helped thousands of women deal with issues related to diet and weight. Dana believes body fat is part hormonal, part inflammatory and part emotional and the food we eat can impact positively (or not) our hormones and mindset. She warns that “life” can get in the way of our better intentions as it’s in the childhood that women develop their sense of self-worth.

James’ approach to diet is unique, as to help women lose weight, she takes in consideration food but also feelings and mind; she relies on science as well as spirituality; she studies conscious thought as well as subconscious thought.

This was the focus for James’ first book: The Archetype Diet: Reclaim Your Self-Worth and Change the Shape of Your Body. Here she uses 4 archetypes to help women become leaner, stronger and more attuned to their feminine self.
