A luminous new sculpture by Sabine Marcelis and LYMA Laser unite art, light, and renewal in Ibiza.
This summer, something extraordinary has arrived at Six Senses Ibiza. Perched on the ancient rocks overlooking the White Isle, Tanit - a luminous new sculpture by visionary artist Sabine Marcelis - now greets the sun each morning and returns its light each night. Created in collaboration with LYMA and curated by Soleil Le Gallery, the installation marks the beginning of a special seasonal residency offering LYMA Laser PRO treatments at this iconic sanctuary.
Together, the artwork, the technology, and the setting invite us into a shared exploration of resurgence, renewal, and the power of light to begin again.
Light as material and muse
For Sabine Marcelis, light is not merely a means to illuminate; it is the material, the muse, the message.
“Light is both material and muse in my work,” she explains. “It’s intangible, but it completely transforms how we perceive form, colour and space. I’m interested in using light not just as something that reveals an object, but as something that is the object - something you can almost feel.”
Her sculptural language plays with light’s ability to shift perception through minimal interventions. Whether natural or artificial, light lends her work a temporal quality - constantly changing, so no moment of experience is ever the same.
The creative process: Between states
Sabine’s process always begins with material, specifically, materials that exist in states of flux.
“I’m drawn to surfaces that have the potential to shift or surprise - glass, resin, light - elements that are often in-between states,” she says.
By exploring how these elements behave under different conditions and in dialogue with their environment, she creates works that both reflect and disrupt their context. Her inspiration lies in simplicity, and in the quiet complexity that can emerge from the most refined gestures.
A shared light: LYMA, Ibiza and Tanit
Ibiza has long been synonymous with regeneration and renewal - themes that echo through both Sabine’s work and LYMA’s laser technology. “There’s a shared rhythm between all three - a respect for nature, a focus on transformation, and a desire to work with, not against, the body or environment,” Sabine reflects.
Tanit absorbs sunlight by day, glowing softly into the night. Like LYMA’s laser - which uses light to gently regenerate the skin over time - the piece embodies a self-sustaining cycle, rooted in the passing of time. And on Ibiza, where time itself feels elastic, this triad of art, technology, and place forms an ecosystem that honours both innovation and natural rhythm.
Sabine’s personal journey with LYMA
Sabine has woven the LYMA Laser into her own daily ritual. “I’ve used it now daily for six weeks straight,” she shares. “It’s so easy to take on the go and provides me a perfect 21 minutes to relax and listen to a podcast. It has really become a bit of a ritual that slows me down each day.”
So far, the results speak for themselves. “My skin feels great! I’m looking forward to seeing the results on my laugh lines in the next six weeks.”
Living your best life
What does feeling your best mean to Sabine Marcelis? “Having the right balance of all the things that make up life,” she says simply.
And her advice for living well?
- Prioritise the right things.
- Take the time to look around, feel grateful, and realise how lucky you are - especially in the grand scheme of things.
- It’s OK to be lazy sometimes.
In the end, Tanit stands as a testament to that philosophy - a quiet, glowing reminder that light, like life, is always in motion, always renewing, always inviting us to pause, reflect, and begin again.
