There’s been so much buzz around CBD and CBD oil recently, but its potential benefits are still very much open to be debated. CBD is frequently touted as a cure-all for everything from stress and anxiety, to problems sleeping and autoimmune disorders. But what is CBD good for and is CBD worth the hype?
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis sativa plant, also known as marijuana. Yes, the same marijuana that all those kids used to smoke round the back of the bike sheds. CBD is the non-psychoactive part of the plant, meaning that it doesn’t have the same effect as you’d associate with smoking cannabis; its cousin, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC, is responsible for that.
Proponents of CBD claim that it elicits a feeling of relaxation and calm when consumed in edible form.
Is CBD safe?
The short answer is, we’re not sure: CBD has only been clinically trialled on animals.
Regulatory bodies have increasingly called the safety of CBD into question in recent years, with the European Union declaring it a ‘novel food’ meaning that they effectively disregard it as safe to consume, and pass the onus onto retailers to vouch for its safety and efficacy. A novel food is effectively not deemed safe for human consumption by the regulatory body.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) in the UK has designated CBD a ‘borderline compound’ and advises consumers to think carefully before taking any CBD products. It does not recommend vulnerable groups or people with compromised immunity take CBD, unless under medical direction and supervision.
The FSA also says that CBD may harm the liver and, as a precaution, it recommends that healthy adults do not take more than 70mg a day, again unless under medical direction and supervision.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ruled CBD completely illegal in the USA, and many other countries have banned it based on zero tolerance policies around THC.
Despite claims to the contrary, CBD has been shown to weaken the immune system, suppressing T-cell production and function, and thus damaging the body’s ability to fight off illness and infection.
Furthermore, CBD may not be safe for everybody and this may vary according to individual physiology and biology. Up to 5% of people who have tried CBD reported that they felt altered by it, and not in a good way. It is likely that if you have an allergy to any over-the-counter sleep aid such as Tylenol, you may also react badly to CBD.
Finally, because the FDA, EU and FSA don't regulate CBD, CBD-containing products including oils, and edibles may in fact be more or less potent than advertised and may even contain trace amounts of THC.
Why is LYMA a better alternative?
While the jury is still out on CBD, we’re taking no chances.
All the ingredients featured in LYMA’s formula have been clinically trialled on humans in peer-reviewed, double-blind, randomised studies, and are all fully patented. Each and every ingredient has been approved by the EFSA and FDA and has been referenced in recognised leading industry publications. Every ingredient in the LYMA formula is fully certified for sale in the UK and USA, and all ingredients are manufactured to a Good Manufacturing Standard (GMP) of the highest level.
LYMA’s ingredients are selected on the premise of bioavailability, stability, purity and innovation and are backed by more research than other supplement regimes on the market, and certainly by more research than in CBD. The LYMA formula goes above and beyond to support optimal wellness.
Unlike CBD, LYMA’s ingredients have clinically proven benefits and our formula has had an overwhelmingly positive and demonstrable effect on upgrading immune function, stress response and sleep quality, and on reducing inflammation in human trials.
LYMA contains Wellmune®, a highly specialized 1,3 1,6 natural beta glucan that has been clinically proven to boost the immune system and help people to thrive during times of stress. Speaking of stress, LYMA also contains full spectrum root extract Ashwagandha KSM-66® which has been clinically proven to both reduce stress and anxiety, and to support a healthy sleep-wake cycle.
CBD has been said to contain anti-inflammatory compounds. However, there is little to no evidence that this is in fact the case. LYMA, on the other hand, contains HydroCurc™; a highly bioavailable anti-inflammatory strain of curcumin, the active compound present in turmeric. HydroCurc™ has all of the anti-inflammatory benefits that people frequently, and erroneously, attribute to CBD but with none of the dangers, risks or side-effects. In fact, LYMA has no side-effects at all as our ingredients have ben mindfully formulated so as not to interact with one another.
Unlike CBD, LYMA is a safe, tested and proven supplement with real health benefits you can see and feel . Our ingredients are award winning and stand out for their enhanced bioavailability, improved stability and optimised delivery systems. No other product on the market today comes close, least of all CBD which is unsubstantiated at best, and outright dangerous at worst.
