In your thirties you could pinch the skin on the back of your hand and watch it spring flat again. By your forties, it holds the fold a moment too long. Women describe it in the same few ways: my skin doesn't bounce back, it's lost its spring, there's no life in it anymore. That loss of bounce has a name, elasticity, and it has a cause you can actually do something about.

Elasticity comes from two proteins your skin makes for itself: collagen, which gives structure, and elastin, which lets skin stretch and recoil. Together they form the scaffold that holds your face where it sits. Three things happen to that scaffold as skin ages, and they feed each other.

Production slows. The cells that build collagen and elastin, your fibroblasts and keratinocytes, get less active with age. They make the building blocks more slowly while your skin breaks them down faster. The result is a structural deficit. Those same proteins hold water in the skin, so as they decline, skin loses firmness and hydration from the inside out. That is why a moisturiser sitting on the surface was never going to reach the problem.

Supply fails. Ageing breaks down the skin's architecture, and the tiny capillaries that feed each cell oxygen and nutrients start to fail with it. Under-fed cells repair slowly. The infrastructure that used to keep skin resilient runs down.

Zombie cells take over. Some cells stop working but refuse to die. They enter a state called senescence; LYMA calls them zombie cells. They do not just sit there idle, they actively encourage the breakdown of the scaffold around them. As their numbers grow, the damage accelerates, and skin looks progressively slacker, with less bounce and deeper lines. The process amplifies itself.

None of this is a failure of discipline or of your skincare routine. It is biology, and it is happening below the depth any cream can reach. The question that matters is whether the scaffold can be rebuilt from within. It can.

Not heat. Not a mask on the surface. Light at the exact frequency your cells rebuild by.

Most devices aimed at firmness either damage the skin to force a repair response, or never get deep enough to matter. The LYMA Laser does neither. It uses a continuous cold laser beam at 808nm, 500mW in the Laser and 1450mW in the Laser PRO, a wavelength described as the optimal frequency for regeneration. The light travels deep into the dermis without heating or damaging a single cell, which is why there is no pain, no recovery and no downtime. Once it is there, it does three things, one for each part of the problem above.

It restarts production. The cold near-infrared light stimulates your fibroblasts and keratinocytes directly, prompting them to make more collagen and elastin, the scaffold itself. More of both also helps skin hold water again, so firmness and hydration return together.

It re-feeds the cells. The laser's signals prompt cells to become more active and draw more nutrients, re-energising the failing capillary infrastructure that starved them in the first place.

It clears the zombie cells. The same light encourages skin to clear out senescent cells, the ones actively breaking down your scaffold. With them gone, skin becomes denser, smoother and firmer, and because it works at the cellular level, the benefit compounds with continued daily use rather than fading between sessions.

Why a laser, and not an LED mask. Laser light is coherent, polarised and single-wavelength, so when it meets living tissue it creates a "speckle" effect that amplifies the light stimulus through the full depth of the skin. Ordinary LED light is scattered and cannot do this; by LYMA's account, up to 95% of it bounces off the surface before it can act. Depth is the whole game with elasticity, because the scaffold sits in the dermis, not on top of it.

The evidence

Injectables can smooth a line for three months, but they never change the biology underneath; you are, in effect, renting the result rather than owning it. Rebuilding the scaffold is a different proposition: the improvement is your skin's own.

An independent clinical trial recorded a 103% increase in skin elasticity in 30 days, measured by Cutometer, described as a record for clinically tested skin transformation. A peer-reviewed study in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum (Glass et al., 2025) found the LYMA Laser activated 45 genes in human dermis, against 1 for LED, including a 6-fold rise in SIRT1, the gene that governs cellular repair. The LYMA Laser is FDA-cleared.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most LED devices lose the majority of their power before it reaches the skin - up to 95% of LED light simply bounces off the surface. Laser light behaves differently: because it's coherent, polarised and monochromatic, it stays concentrated and intense rather than scattering at the surface.

That's the structural reason LED can feel warm without visibly firming the skin, while a true Laser is built to deliver a visibly firmer, tighter-looking result.

Yes. The LYMA Laser's Lens Technology uses a double-diffused lens that removes heat from the beam before it reaches the skin. Because there's no heat, it's safe to use around the eye area and on all skin tones, without the risk of thermal or pigmentation-related irritation that can come with heat-based devices, and without downtime.

They work in different ways. Fillers add volume from the outside; the LYMA Laser works with the skin's own natural processes to visibly renew and firm its appearance over time.

It's an FDA-cleared, clinic-grade device designed for daily use at home, with no needles, no downtime and no numbing required. It won't replicate an in-clinic procedure overnight, but it's built to improve the skin's appearance over time rather than temporarily disguise its loss.

The best way to track this is with the LYMA App's skin scan feature. Take your first scan before you start, then scan again every 30 days in the same lighting, angle and time of day, so the comparison is accurate. Most users see a visible difference in firmness and tightness by day 30, the App gives you measurable metrics as well as comparison photographs.

To stay consistent, log each session as you go: after completing your Laser session, tap the circle next to the Routine on the Home Screen, or use the Mark As Complete button at the bottom of the Routine page. Keeping your Routine up to date makes it easier to see how your scan results line up with your actual usage over time.

Skin ageing does not stop, so maintaining results means maintaining use, in the same way that stopping strength training eventually loses you the muscle you built.

The Laser is designed to be a daily, ongoing part of a skincare routine rather than a single fix, once you have the results you’re happy with you can switch from daily use to two of three times a week.

Yes. Instalment payment options are available through Klarna and Splitit, which allow you to spread the cost of your purchase:

  • Klarna: Pay over up to 3 months (subject to approval)
  • Splitit: pay up to 12 months (subject to approval)

Your LYMA Laser is backed by a 2-year warranty, so you're covered from day one. You'll also have direct access to our dedicated Concierge team for bespoke advice and consultations, via email, live chat or WhatsApp, whenever you have a question about your routine or results.

And the LYMA App keeps you supported day to day: it tracks your treatments, monitors your progress through AI-powered skin analysis, and sends personalised routines and reminders to help you stay consistent.
